Dental Care

Whatโ€™s the best way of preventing cavities and gum disease?

The best way to prevent cavities and gum disease is to practice good oral hygiene at home and schedule regular checkups with your dentist.

Preventive dentistry habits such as proper brushing and flossing, and regular cleanings and checkups with your dentist help you avoid dental problems and save you money in the long run.

What is fluoride, and how does it work?

Fluoride, derived from fluorine, is found everywhere in nature in water, soil, air and food. It is absorbed easily into tooth enamel, especially in growing teeth. Once teeth are developed, fluoride makes the entire tooth structure more resistant to decay and promotes remineralization, which helps to repair early decay before the damage is even visible.

Cosmetic

How can dental help combat the look of aging?

Millennium Dental is able to provide a solution to help you age gracefully. With smile rejuvenation we can restore your teeth to their optimum healthy shape and size.

As teeth wear, as they inevitably and steadily can do for each of us, the space between our upper and lower jaw reduces which will bring our chin closer to our nose. This will also result in more deeply engraved jowls and will pull the corners of our mouth down to give the appearance of a permanent frown.

Do you offer Botox and derma fillers?

Dental practitioners are qualified to administer Botox due to their training in the anatomy of the face, neck and jaw, and their routine consideration of these areas when treating their patients.

Do you have more than one option for whitening teeth?

We offer different teeth whitening options and will be happy to assess your needs and discuss options with you.

Can porcelain veneers cover the gaps in my smile?

Absolutely, porcelain veneers are the best solution to cover gaps, chips and misshapen teeth. The thin porcelain veneers can give you the beautiful smile you desire.

Does Invisalign really work?

Invisalign is a system of invisible braces that works to realign teeth and if we recommend that this solution is appropriate to address your personal dental needs, we will do so with the confidence that it will be effective – we have many patients that will attest to the success of this system with enthusiasm. The transparency of the Invisalign aligners enhances its aesthetic appeal for adult patients who are averse to wearing conventional braces. The principles for how it works to move teeth are the same. If it feels like cheating, well… ๐Ÿ™‚

Restorative

I'm not currently experiencing pain in my tooth. Why do I need a filling?

Through X-rays, we can detect cavities while they are still small and before they begin to cause pain. By placing the filling in your tooth while the cavity is still small, we can retain more of the healthy tooth structure.

Do you use CEREC for 3D images of teeth?

CEREC is a dental restoration tool that we use when a tooth is being restored either as a crown, inlay, onlay or veneer. CEREC allows us to produce a ceramic restoration using a variety of computer assisted technologies, including 3D imaging. The system includes a library of tooth shapes. This information is incorporated with images of your teeth and bite and then we use the software to help design the tooth shape that will suit you best. The finished tooth will look and function so naturally no one will ever be able to tell it is not real.

This data is sent to a milling machine where the new tooth is milled out of a solid ceramic or composite block. With CEREC, teeth can be restored in a single visit, rather than the multiple sittings.

What is the difference between a crown and a bridge?

A crown is used when a single tooth is damaged. A bridge is used when more than one tooth is missing. Crowns and bridges add stability to the surrounding teeth and give your smile a more beautiful look.

Reconstructive

I've noticed bleeding in my gums when I brush my teeth. Should I be worried?

Inflammation and infection of the gums and surrounding tissues can lead to irreversible damage to teeth and gums, and to other negative consequences to overall health. Proper oral care and regular dental check-ups help to prevent problems like these. We would like to be your partner in the effort to safeguard your health.

Why should I choose implants?

The reasons for using implants vary with different people. Because they are anchored into the jaw implants are the long-term solution for replacing teeth. For individuals who do not have enough tooth structure to fit a crown onto, implants can be a great alternative.

Are root canals painful, and can anything be done to make the process less painful?

Root canals are commonly believed to be painful, but the anesthetics and technologies we use today make this a relatively easy and pain-free process for patients. When the anesthetics wear off, some people can experience some temporary soreness or tissue inflammation, but these are easily controlled with non-prescription medications.

Neuromuscular

I am prone to headaches and neck pain and someone suggested I should see a dentist. Is it possible there is a connection?

Pain in the head or neck or jaw can often be connected to problems with the jaw. Problems with crowded teeth or missing teeth are just two causes that can lead to jaw misalignment, resulting in neuromuscular problems that can seriously impact your health and wellbeing. We are able to resolve these problems so that you can enjoy the kind of comfort that you can take for granted and never need to think about.

If you suffer from ear problems, pain or clicking in your jaw joint, stiff neck or upper back pain, you need to have a dental professional trained in the diagnosis and treatment of TMJ and TMD assess the cause of the problem and advise you if they may be able to provide a solution.

What is obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and how do you manage it?

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is a dangerous medical condition that can have serious short and long-term consequences for your health.

People with OSA wake multiple times during the night due to a repetitive collapsing of the airway. For many people, this constant disruption in breathing during sleep results in chronic sleep deprivation.

With OSA, blood pressure and heart rate surge in response to these collapses. This results in an increased risk of a number of serious condition, include heart disease, stroke and even impotence.

Millennium Dental uses oral appliance therapy to successfully manage this condition. During this procedure, a custom appliance is used to gradually realign the jaw and/or tongue in relation to the head, reducing symptoms and resulting in a more restful sleep.
