While Botox^® is commonly known for its properties as a fast and effective tool to make skin look tighter and more youthful, it can be an effective treatment for many dental issues including headaches, migraines, TMJ, and bruxism (tooth grinding). Millennium Dental is pleased to offer Cosmetic and Therapeutic Botox^® treatments to our patients!

It is the trade name for Botulinum Toxin. It is a purified neuromodulator protein that is injected into muscles and acts by blocking the neurotransmission of the nerves to the muscles. Essentially, it temporarily relaxes muscles, which decreases contractions.

Botox^® is often injected into various facial points to block nerve signals to specific muscles. In doing so, movement is limited, which reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles, and creates an overall smoother appearance. Since dentists know better than anyone else what makes a great smile, and since they are highly trained in facial structure and facial anatomy, they are qualified to administer Botox^®.

It can be used for more than just cosmetic reasons. Dentists can also use Botox^® for therapeutic purposes, including:

• Complications associated with tight jaw muscles, including TMJ pain
• Grinding and clenching (Bruxism)
• Treatment of chronic headaches and migraines
