What causes teeth staining?
Teeth staining and discoloration can happen for a variety of reasons. Three general types of staining can occur. Teeth whitening systems such as Zoom! whitening generally respond very well to the first two types of staining, surface stains and soft deposits.
surface stains – Surface stains are caused by strong discolouring agents such as coffee, tea, tobacco, blueberries, red wine.
soft deposits – Soft deposits are teeth stains caused by plaque build up.
intrinsic stains – Intrinsic stains are caused by medications, such as tetracycline, advanced decay; or defective silver fillings.
What is the best teeth whitening system?
We believe that the Zoom! whitening system is the best professional whitening system on the market – it’s both fast and effective. In a one hour treatment, teeth can be whitened up to 8 shades!
How safe is teeth whitening?
Our Zoom! whitening system is not only proven to whiten teeth up to eight shades, it’s also proven to be very safe when administered by dental professionals. While some whitening products can harm teeth and gums, using Zoom! actually strengthens and protects enamel.
Is teeth whitening painful?
Teeth whitening can sometimes cause tooth and gum sensitivity. During our whitening consultation, we’ll ask you some questions to make sure you are a good candidate for teeth whitening. When having the treatment, all necessary actions will be taken to minimize any sensitivity.
Why choose a professional whitening solution over drug store versions?
Whitening products you can purchase at the drug storecan provide some degree of whitening but are of lower concentration than professional whitening products. With our in-office whitening treatment, your whitening treatment works quickly and is customized to your needs. To make it safe, as well as effective, your dental professionals at Millennium Dental are here to supervise the process.
How long can I expect my Zoom! Whitening to last?
The Zoom! Whitening treatments will significantly help whiten your smile. However, if you come into contact with the same staining agents again – foods and beverages such as coffee, tea or soft drinks, your teeth will eventually become discolored again.
Our dentists will let you know how to maintain the effects of your whitening treatment and advice you about periodic whitening touch-ups.
Teeth whitening consultation
Before we begin the teeth whitening process, we want to make sure you’re a good candidate for success with this treatment. Typically we’ll find this out during a hygiene appointment or through a consultation if you are a new patient.
To make sure you’re a good candidate for Zoom!, it’s strongly recommended that you have recently had a dental cleaning sincethe whitening gel does not penetrate through plaque build-up.
You’ll also be advised about what Zoom! cannot do. For example, fillings, crowns, or veneers cannot be whitened.
Our dentists will look for signs of increased tooth sensitivity such as gum recession. Gum recession exposes dentin and possibly the root of the tooth – which could make the whitening process more sensitive.
We’ll also review any medication you are on to make sure there are no challenges with the treatment.
